Hi everyone,

My name's Ryan Keane - I used to be pretty active in the club when I had time to take care of multiple tanks but haven't been to a meeting in a long while. I am now a first year High School biology teacher in Lawrence. I recently set up a 75g tank with firemouth cichlids/giant danios in my class, and I am looking to have my students start culturing live food to measure population growth under different environmental conditions and future experiments. I'm thinking good choices would be microworms, banana worms, vinegar eels, daphnia, maybe white/grindal worms. Please let me know if you have any cultures available to buy. Donations or discounts would be very welcome and much appreciated, since I don't have any school funds for this. I can pick up locally or at the next monthly meeting. Hoping to create some future aquarists and BAS members!

Thank you very much for your time and attention.
Cheers,
Ryan

Hi Ryan !!
Congrats on your new position !!

How about cherry shrimp ? easy to culture, and the subadults would be perfect food for firemouths !
All you'd need would be a 10g tank with sponge filter and small heater... less messy to culture than other foods. Plus they will provide behavioral enrichment for the firemouths by making them forage for food :)

Hi Ryan,
I can give you vinegar eels and a large rubbermaid container of white worms and possibly some reds.
I'm real close in Andover. I also have endlers if you want to raise them.
You can pick them up or I can drop them off.
Chuck Fittz
ps I also have plenty of extra equipment you can have

Thanks so much Rich and Chuck. Cherry shrimp, vinegar eels, and white worms would all be great. I should be ok for equipment for now. I think I'm going to wait on raising fish until next year - we'll see if my firemouth's start breeding, in which case I might have students set up tanks to raise the fry.
