I have always spent a few minutes at the African cichlid tank and admitted the gorgeous single species setup, near the main entrance to the library. There were probably about 80 Neolamprologus brichardi and good number of fry at all times. Today I was shocked to find the tank empty except for a couple of plecostomus. Apparently, they lost all the fish due to an extended power outage over the weekend and they suffocated.
What a shame, I feel horrible about this and wanted to share. A few fish that did survive have been relocated to the smaller track in the children's section downstairs, but African cichlids didn't seem too happy in the smaller, already well stocked aquarium, which I think is an American cichlid tank...
