Post subject:  For Sale: Trio of rare South American cichlids

I stumbled on a group of five Bujurquina vittata (banded acara), a very interesting fish where both parents mouth brood their fry and also lay eggs on a moveable platform (usually leaves) and drag the clutch around with them. These are South American cichlids that are not very aggressive, except when breeding. They stay around 4.5" TL and have golden yellow coloration on the lower body. Here's a link. http://www.basny.org/id614-breeding-the ... ttata.html. My original intent was to buy these five, get a pair from them and sell off the other three.

I received the fish last week and two days later there were babies swimming around in the tank. They must have bred in the seller's tank, scooped up the eggs and carried them in their mouths for the two days of shipping. They then hatched in my tank. I was not prepared for this. The three vittata not involved in this cross-country love fest are now being harassed in my 30 long. I will be setting up a 75 gallon soon, but I need to find a new home for the three. I just put a divider in the 30 so no one gets injured. I'm looking for $25.00 cash or best offer for the trio which is below my cost. I have never seen these fish in the 50 years I've been involved in the hobby. Just the fact that those babies made it through that ordeal shows what exceptional parents they are. I can't sex the three, but one is more dominant so I think a pair can be obtained from them. They are around 2 inches give or take. They acclimated quickly and are begging for food with no shyness exhibited. I've been feeding them Ken's flakes and frozen blood worms with no problem.

I can't drive very far due to a back condition, so you would have to come to my house in SW New Hampshire, close to Fitchburg or up route 3 to Nashua to pick them up. I could meet someone at exit 8 off route 3. I can be reached by responding to this ad on the BAS website or call me at (603) 672-3175. Thanks! Bob

Yes, I do. In fact, I've decided to sell all five, which includes the breeding pair. I bought them on an impulse and I wasn't planning on breeding fish again. I'm going to go with my original plan of raising one show specimen in my 75 gallon.

Red- Let me know if you are interested because I was planning on trading them in to a local pet shop this week. Bob

No. They lasted about 5 days and then vanished. Let me know if your "uncle" is interested. I need to find them a home. Pick up would be great.

Email me a price for the 5 and I'll pass it on.
And let me know if you need any fish delivered at the same time.

Email sent. I am interested in getting a couple of Herichthys carpintis Chairel from Ned's CA order list. Has that order gone out yet? I'm up for a trade or partial credit if that works. Thanks!
