Dear BAS Members,

Over the past year we have seen a dramatic decline in club revenues. While our club finances are stable for the moment they are far from where they should be. I know several club members are resistant to change but if we continue to operate the way we have for the last few years the club finaces will be will reach critical condition in just a few months. Based on consultations with several members both of our society and neighboring societies we have come up with the changes that will hopefully change the course of our club.

Some of the changes will be implemented immediately others will start at either the December or January meeting. The board will be revisiting these changes at the quarterly board meeting in March.

1. We are eliminating free snacks at the meetings. Members are encouraged to bring refreshments to share with other members.

2. Starting at our December meeting there will be a $5 fee at each meeting for members who wish to sell fish at the back of the room. The fee for non-members will be $20. Non members will also be able to join the club at the meeting.

3. Starting in January only members of the BAS & Sponsored Guests will be allowed to enter fish for auction at the meetings. A sponsored guest is someone who has been brought to the meeting by a member of the club and signed in at the registration desk. If the guest returns at subsequent meetings they must join the club in order to enter items for auction. Members of NEC sister clubs will also be permitted to sell items in the auction. (These rules do not apply to the annual holiday party, the summer party, or the Spring and Fall annual events.) Non members will be able to join the club at the registration desk. Of course donations to the club will be gladly accepted for auction.

4. Also starting in January there will be a minimum bid requirement of $3 for an item in the monthly auction. Any item failing to meet this threshold will be removed from the auction and will be returned to the seller at the conclusion of the meeting. Any items not claimed at the end of the meeting will be considered donations to the club.

5. The 3 bag per species limit will be striclty enforced beginning with the January meeting.

6. Starting with the Decmeber meeting each seller in the auction will be given a red dot to place on one of their bags. All of the red dot items will be auctioned off first. Sellers may also purchase additional dots for $1 each. Items may also be bumped for $2.
