I picked up a pair of these at the NEC convention. Anybody ever raised these?

I just spotted a couple of fry in the java moss. I wasn't paying close attention. They are about 1/2" long. Not quite as big as the ameca splendon fry, but still pretty large.

There was a 2nd spawning in 2007 with 3 fry surviving ( I don't know how many there were ). The 1st spawn had 3 fry. I just noticed a new batch of fry in the tank - 9 -. If they all survive it puts the colony count at 17.

I took a close look at the fish in this tank and noticed that I only got one female out of the first two spawns. So I have 2 females and 6 males with 9 fry. Explains the slow population growth. I hope I get a better male / female split from the fry.

pH or hardness of the water seems to affect whether your fry are male or female.

With my Ameca splendens, if the hardness dropped lower than they'd like it, I'd get all females. If I made sure that the hardness and pH was up, I get a mix of males and females.

I noticed some more fry in the tank. I haven't tried to count them yet. Time to move these fish to a bigger tank.
