July 2024 Monthly Meeting

July 2024 Monthly Meeting

Our July monthly meeting will be held on Monday, July 15, 2024.  BAS will be having Rick Rego as a speaker.  His talk will be on “The Non-indigenous Fishes in Florida”.

Richard J. Rego has been keeping fish for over 30 years, in addition to reptiles and amphibians. His interest lies mostly in wild-type livebearers and North American native fishes. In the past he has maintained 100 aquariums in his personal fish room and currently maintains CARES species in his lab. He was past President of TFSRI, past chairman of the Northeast Livebearers Association, and served on the Board of Governors for the Northeast Council of Aquarium Societies.

He is currently involved in several reptile and amphibian related research projects in Massachusetts as a state-level and private contract biologist. Rick also works with the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) Marine Mammal Rescue and Research based in Yarmouthport on Cape Cod. He also collaborates with the marine mammal and sea turtle rescue response team at Mystic Aquarium. He responds to live and dead stranded marine mammals and performs necropsies on various whale, dolphin, and seal species.

Rick is the senior coordinator of the small animal, large animal, and wildlife anatomy teaching lab at Tufts University's Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine in Grafton, MA, and is responsible for the anatomy course and dissections labs for 110 first year DVM candidates.

After the talk, we will have our monthly auction.  Your highest selling lot in our monthly auctions will be $3.00 to the BAS Club and the remaining to the seller.  If the highest selling item sells for less than $6.00 then it is a 50/50 split. All other lots will be a 50/50 split.

Please feel free to bring refreshments to share.

Our new location is now INSIDE the New England Aquarium. If you are driving, street meters are free after 8PM. Also, there is plenty of street parking especially along India Street (set your GPS for 35 India Street) you will find empty meters. Paid parking is available nearby in the Boston Harbor Garage. If you are taking the MBTA, take the Blue line to Aquarium.
